Check your pet's body shape, convert their age to human years and make a reminder calendar for vaccines and parasite treatments.

Age in human years

There is no exact formula. These are the bands vets use, and dogs age at different speeds depending on size.

Your pet

Human-age equivalents are rough. From age 6 the chart vets use splits by size; for the first five years the published charts disagree, so we use the same values for all sizes.

Vaccine and parasite reminders

Make a calendar file with reminders for the next 12 months. Nothing is stored or sent anywhere.

In Slovakia every dog over 3 months must be vaccinated against rabies and revaccinated as the vaccine requires. For cats rabies vaccination is recommended, and it is required for travel abroad — ask your vet.

Dogs in Slovakia must be microchipped by 12 weeks of age, and always before a change of owner. The vet registers the chip in the Central Register of Companion Animals.

For travel within the EU your pet needs a microchip, a pet passport and a rabies vaccination given at 12 weeks or older, at least 21 days before travelling. The chip must go in before the vaccine.

Ticks are active in Slovakia for most of the year, and some (which spread babesiosis in dogs) even in winter. Skin worm and heartworm, spread by mosquitoes, occur in southern Slovakia — ask your vet about prevention if you live there or travel south.
