Can dogs and cats eat Tuna (for cats)?
DogOnly with care
CatOnly with care
Plain tuna is fine as an occasional treat, but tuna for humans is not a complete diet for cats and can be high in salt and mercury.
Why
Not toxic in small amounts; risks are unbalanced diet, salt (brine) and mercury with long-term feeding
Signs to watch for
- vomiting or diarrhoea (if rich or salty)
- picky eating if fed too often
Good to know
Choose tuna in spring water, not brine or oil, and keep it as an occasional small treat. Cats fed mostly tuna can develop nutritional deficiencies.
