The flesh of plums, apricots and peaches is fine in small amounts, but the stones contain cyanide-forming compounds and are a serious choking and blockage risk.
Why
Amygdalin (cyanogenic glycoside) in stones, leaves and stems; obstruction
Signs to watch for
- vomiting
- not eating
- painful belly
- difficulty breathing (rare, cyanide)
Good to know
Swallowed whole stones are mainly a blockage risk — contact your vet. Fallen fruit in Slovak gardens in late summer can also ferment (alcohol).
