DogOnly with care
CatOnly with care
Most adult cats and many dogs are lactose intolerant. Milk is not toxic but often causes diarrhoea and stomach upset.
Why
Lactose (not toxic; poorly digested)
Signs to watch for
- diarrhoea
- vomiting
- gas, bloating
Good to know
Water is the right drink for cats and dogs. Lactose-free 'cat milk' products are tolerated better but add calories. Ice cream is also sugary and fatty — and sugar-free versions may contain xylitol.
