Can dogs and cats eat Avocado?
DogOnly with care
CatOnly with care
Avocado flesh is not considered very toxic to dogs and cats (persin is mainly dangerous to birds, rabbits and horses), but it is fatty and the large stone can block the gut.
Why
Persin (mainly a risk for birds and large animals); high fat; stone
Signs to watch for
- vomiting
- diarrhoea
- signs of blockage if the stone is swallowed (repeated vomiting, not eating)
Good to know
A little flesh is unlikely to harm. Keep stones, skin and guacamole (often contains onion/garlic) away. Pet birds and rabbits must not have avocado.
